Serena @ The US open

Serena discusses it with the tournament referee

Serena Williams went off on the line judge yesterday at the US Open after a foot fault gave her opponent, Kim Clijsters, match point. The problem is this: the video clearly shows that it was not a foot fault. That's probably why the US Tennis Association isn't releasing the name of that line judge.

With the erroneous call putting the game at match point for Clijsters, Serena approached the the female judge and cursed at her and according to nearby reporters, threatened to shove the ball down her throat. There was a quick conference with the chair umpire and the tournament referee from which they emerged and determined that Serena would be penalized a point for unsportmanlike conduct. Well, since the bad foot fault call brought it to match point, the penalty point ended the match. Kim Clijsters is your winner. How do you like that?

While the bad foot fault call was exposed by the CBS announcers in this video right about the 4:40 mark, Serena needed to keep her head cool, her mouth shut and she would have probably still been playing. This is no way for the defending champion to go out.

Check out ESPN's video for the quick highlights.
